Dermatology Nursing, April, 2008
Triax Pharmaceuticals, LLC has announced the launch of new Tretin*X[TM] (tretinoin), the only prescription retinoid that corresponds with the acne treatment protocol outlined in the labeling of virtually every topical retinoid. Tretin*X is a complete acne system designed to simplify treatment by providing the cleansing and moisturizing steps outlined for retinoid therapy.
Each package of Tretin*X contains 1 of 4 strengths of tretinoin cream or gel and 2 cosmetic products included at no additional cost to the patient: T3[TM] Foaming Cleanser and T3[TM] Soothing Moisturizer. These cosmetic products are specially formulated to provide the cleansing and moisturizing effects necessary and simplify treatment for the patient.

Retinoids have long been considered the cornerstone of acne treatment because they promote the breakdown of comedones and normal follicular keratinization. Tretinoin is the first natural retinoid to be used topically. In general, a standard protocol for the treatment of acne that includes gentle cleansing and moisturizing is recommended by dermatologists.
While most doctors will recommend specific cosmetic products for use during treatment with a retinoid, they have very little control over what a patient purchases at the store. "Dermatologists have been waiting for a way to get the efficacy of tretinoin in a system that addresses the issue of overdrying," says Peter Volk, Vice President of Marketing at Triax Pharmaceuticals, "and also gives them some control over the products their patients use with treatment. Tretin*X does that."
Tretin*X is available in 0.025% cream, 0.05% cream, 0.1% cream, 0.01% gel, and 0.025% gel. The T3 Foaming Cleanser is non-soap and non-irritating and features CoQ10 and green tea extract. The T3 Soothing Moisturizer is non-greasy and features the soothing complex of aloe vera, dipeptide-1, and bisabolol, ingredients known for their calming properties. Neither cosmetic product is sold separately, but a tube of each (approximately a month's supply) is in every box of Tretin*X.
Dryness, redness, or peeling may occur during the first weeks of treatment. To prevent irritating the skin, protect it from sun, sunlamps, extreme wind or cold, and harsh skin-care products. Use of sunscreen is recommended. Use of the products should be discontinued if hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients is noted.
