* Ascension Health, St. Louis, says it has filled the COO position left vacant when Anthony Tersigni was named president and CEO of the nation's largest Catholic healthcare system, which has 67 hospitals. The new COO is Robert Henkel, who joined Ascension in 1998.

Most recently, Henkel, 50, was president of Ascension's Great Lakes and mid-Atlantic states operating group, overseeing hospitals in eight states and the District of Columbia. Before joining Ascension, Henkel was executive vice president and acting CEO of Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Fla., and also had worked as a hospital executive in St. Louis.
