Tenet Healthcare Corp. and the University of Southern California are fighting over more than just a hospital that does nearly $280 million per year in net patient revenue. The battle over the future of USC University Hospital, Los Angeles, landed in court last week when USC asked a judge to force Tenet to sell the hospital to the university.

To Tenet, the USC lawsuit was a slap in the face. Tenet built the hospital, which opened in 1991, and has invested $229 million in the hospital in the past five years, including $150 million in a 10-story patient tower scheduled to open in the next few months, Tenet spokesman Harry Anderson said.
