Last year, the Sisters of Mercy Health System took on the challenge of getting medical staff from its 18 hospitals in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma committed to purchasing a more limited list of product options.

Accomplishing that meant getting stakeholders to buy into the idea that Mercy could supply high-quality products that answer the needs of multiple users at various hospitals serving several different demographics. The solution, said Vance Moore, president of Mercy's in-house for-profit group purchasing division, Resource Optimization & Innovation, was creating a line of private-label clinical products, some with custom-made details, called the Mercy-the Mark of Quality brand.
