LOUISVILLE, Ky.-The University of Louisville will use a $2.5 billion capital investment to expand its Health Sciences Center in downtown Louisville over the next 20 years. The project will include 3.2 million square feet of new research facilities, laboratories and office space in the university's 30-block health sciences campus. Officials said $1.8 billion of the project will come from public funds and $700 million from private investment. Louisville-based Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's HealthCare will contribute $300 million of that investment. State funding will come from a new tax-increment-financing law that uses tax revenue generated from the new construction to finance the project's debt.
