BOSTON-Proposed regulations for retail-based clinics from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health drew fire from physician groups during a recent hearing to vet public response to the suggested standards. The standards, released last month, were revised in response to a June letter from five state medical groups criticizing requests for facility waivers submitted by CVS MinuteClinic (July 2/9, p. 18). The drugstore chain plans to open Massachusetts' first retail-based clinic early next year. The nine requests included waiving the obligation to create a soiled-linens workroom, dedicated toilet facilities for patients and a separate patient entrance.
