The computer security division of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has created two new publications designed to help administrators secure e-mail and better handle security patches. At press time, both papers were still in draft form, but completed versions should be available shortly.
The first publication, Guidelines on Electronic Mail Security," is aimed at technical audiences, and it is intended to assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of secure mail servers. It covers topics such as e-mail standards and protocols, encryption standards, and methods of securely administering a mail server.
