Protecting the domain name system.(Quick bytes)(Internet Software Consortium)(Brief Article)

Security Management, January, 2004

* Protecting the domain name system. One year after a hacker attack on the Internet's domain name system (DNS), which translates Web addresses into numerical form, a center under the aegis of the Internet Software Consortium (which operates one of the Internet's 13 root servers) has been created to provide incident response capabilities in the event of another attack on the DNS.

Called the Operations, Analysis, and Research Center (OARC), the center will also collect and analyze traffic flows on name servers, test patches that protect against DNS attacks prior to deployment, and provide educational materials on DNS safety measures. @ Find out more about OARC at www.securitymanagement.com.
