'Wilson' (Reg. no. CV-78, PI 631390) is a large-seeded virginia-type peanut (Arachis hypogaea L. spp. hypogaea var. hypogaea) cultivar that was jointly released in 2002 by the Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and the USDA-ARS. It has been evaluated experimentally as VT 940419P in breeder tests, early maturity tests, the Virginia-North Carolina Peanut Variety and Quality Evaluation Program, the Uniform Peanut Performance Tests, Virginia Cooperative Extension Yield Tests, and disease management tests. The release of Wilson offers the advantage of genetic diversity by broadening the genetic base over current cultivars, since 75% of its genetic makeup is from plant introductions not used previously in peanut...
