Dennis Glover and Glenn Patmore (eds), For the People: Reclaiming Our Government, Sydney, Pluto Press, 2000, pp 248, pb $32.95.

For the People is a concise and well-produced set of essays from a left-of-centre perspective. This is the second instalment of the Labor Essays series produced by the Australian Fabian Society. The book is courageous because the essays go beyond criticising the neo-liberal agenda and most of them recommend practical solutions to particular social problems. For those looking for clear thinking on a number of current political problems this book is highly recommended.
