[london] McCann-Erickson Worldwide, part of Interpublic Group of Cos., won the $40 million pan-Africa account for Celtel cellphones, owned by Amsterdam-based Mobile Systems International Cellular Investments. McCann pitched against WPP Group's Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide and Publicis Groupe agencies Leo Burnett Worldwide and Publicis Worldwide, all based in Johannesburg. The account covers 12 African countries and includes other McCann-owned companies responsible for events, brand consulting, online and other areas. The incumbent was local agency Ovation Advertising, Johannesburg.
