The Securities and Exchange Commission is taking on the controversy over inflated newspaper-circulation figures. The SEC has reportedly asked for information on circulation practices from publishers including Tribune Co., McClatchy Co., Washington Post Co., Knight Ridder, New York Times Co., Gannett Co.
