Jim Riswold: Hitler and Hubris

Born 12/7/1957. Coupled Lou Reed with Honda, at Wieden & Kennedy in 1984. One of advertising's most creative creatives. Diagnosed with leukemia in 2000. Started collecting Hitler dolls on a four-month sabbatical from Wieden in 2004. Began photographing and selling the dictator art in 2005. "That was the moment Hitler saved my life. The redemptive power of selling art!.... Dictator toys, by definition, make their subject seem small, childish and trifling... " From "Hitler Saved My Life," the Esquire essay by Riswold published in September 2005. Napoleon is Riswold's latest subject.
