Adidas, Major League Soccer and MLS's Los Angeles Galaxy are already working to recoup their $50 million-a-year marketing investment in star David Beckham. Season-ticket sales are up already, and shirt sales in the U.S.-the biggest market in the world for soccer clothing-will see a boost too. But experts said the real goal for the MLS was getting a star who can raise U.S. interest in soccer to a new level.

Mercedes found itself again looking for a marketing chief in the U.S. after moving Mark McNabb to VP-sales from VP-marketing. His replacement will be the fourth VP-marketing for the brand since 2001.
