So it's official. Mark Cuban, best known as the owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks and the media mogul who loves HDTV the most, will get his chance to dance across TV screens next month. He's joined the cast of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars.''

ABC, as anyone who'd paid any attention to Mike Shaw, president-ad sales, in the last year knows, has made a major investment in broadcasting in the HDTV format. We're not saying getting Cuban to cha-cha-cha will automatically lead to advertisers creating more HDTV ads, but maybe that will be one of the side benefits.

Then again, who knows how long he'll last? His competition includes Melanie "Mel B'' Brown, the former Spice Girl who's most recent notoriety has been due to her...
