Robert Carroll
EAST POINT, Ga.-Carroll Tire Co. founder Robert Edward Carroll Jr. died April 17. He was 78.
Mr. Carroll founded the distributor in Hapeville, Ga., "as a way to bring competitive and consistent pricing to a network of small independent Georgia tire dealers,'' his family wrote in his obituary.
The distributor grew to be one of the nation's largest wholesalers, serving more than 5,000 independent dealers through 15 distribution facilities in Georgia, Alabama, Florida and South Carolina. Carroll Tire generated annual sales of $150 million. TBC Corp. bought the company in 1998, and it became a wholly owned subsidiary.
