Import/export firm Tirex files for bankruptcy

MIAMI - Tire importer/exporter Tirex International Inc. has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation.
Miami-based Tirex listed $112,887 in assets and at least $1.49 million in debts to seven creditors holding unsecured claims-headed by a claim for $1.47 million by Tire Distribution Systems Inc., a Bridgestone/Firestone (BFS) subsidiary formerly operated by Bandag Inc. before Bandag's acquisition by BFS.
Alvaro De Prat, who owns Tirex along with his wife Dolores, told Tire Business the company ceased operations in March 2007, citing low export sales to Venezuela as a major contributing factor.
