Velvet launches Splenda-sweetened line.

Velvet Ice Cream Company has introduced a new line of light ice cream made with Splenda, a no-calorie sweetener made from sugar, produced by McNeil Nutritionals. Velvet, which markets in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, and West Virginia, is the first major regional ice cream to have made use of the Splenda sweetener, which was launched with some fanfare a year-and-a-half ago. "We wanted to produce a line of ice cream with the highest quality and best taste" said Velvet Vice President Mike Dager. "The company's research revealed that Splenda is a truly splendid sweetener." Dager noted a key feature of Splenda is that that it doesn't have the chemical aftertaste sometimes found in other sweeteners.
