In addition, just-food, com has reported that Unilever is appealing the ruling by a European Union court that the company was wrong to ban products of rival manufacturers from its freezers in retail outlets. As reported in the October 2003 Ice Cream Reporter, the European Court of First Instance, Europe's second highest court, supported a 1998 ruling by the European Commission that declared Unilever's freezer case exclusivity clause in its contracts with Irish retailers was a violation of EU competition law.
