The Times Argus of Burlington, VT is reporting that Ben & Jerry's has asked the Waterbury Planning Commission for approval of a capital plan to improve tourist-oriented frills at Ben & Jerry's flagship Waterbury factory. The factory currently welcomes 290,000 visitors a year who get a tour of the factory and a lesson in ice cream production, as well as free samples and a chance to buy Ben & Jerry's stuff in the gift shop.

The company's ambitious goal is to transform the Waterbury compound into the number one attraction in the Northeast, according to Adrea Gibbs Kedamawi, Ben & Jerry's manager of "euphoric engineering."
