Also from Britain, Ben & Jerry's reported that it was launching its fairtrade vanilla ice cream in the UK this summer, as well as in Ireland, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Distribution to other European countries will follow later this year. B&J's fair-trade ice cream features sugar from the Manduvira farmers' co-operative in Paraguay and fairtrade vanilla from four cooperatives in India.

The vanilla ice cream will reportedly be sold at the same price as regular Ben & Jerry's products. The British Fairtrade Foundation reports sales of Fairtrade foods were up 40% in 2005, to 195 million [pounds sterling] ($368 million). B&J expects to add other fair-trade flavors later this year.
