As we have for the past eight years, StateWays contacted top control state officials in the 19 jurisdictions and asked them to provide an overview of recent initiatives in their respective states. As we have seen in the past, each state has its own particular set of concerns and accomplishments. For example, Mississippi relates its recovery from the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina. Still, several overall themes emerge when reading through the state overviews. First, the states that include retail operations within their mandate continue to upgrade their operations--opening new stores, modernizing old ones, and sometimes relocating and modernizing already existing units.
