The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (Sacramento, Calif.) is using a partnership with Starbucks Coffee to promote its green power program.
Through May 31, customers who sign up for SMUD's Greenergy program will receive a $15 Starbucks card.
"SMUD customers can give a little and get a latte," the utility said in a news release announcing the partnership.
For a surcharge of $3 per month, SMUD will match 50 percent of a customer's electric needs with power from renewable fuels such as landfill gas, geothermal steam and small hydroelectric. For a surcharge of $6 per month, SMUD will match 100 percent of a customer's needs with power from renewable sources. The utility said it uses 40 percent of the monthly premium to secure new power plants...
