S&C Electric Company to develop wind farm energy storage.(Associate Member News)

Hawaiian Electric Company has awarded S&C's Power Quality Products Division (Milwaukee, Wisc.), exclusive design and manufacturing rights to an innovative grid stabilizing device for wind farms, a concept patented by Hawaiian Electric Company.

Termed an "Electronic Shock Absorber" (ESA), the device incorporates super capacitor energy storage and power-electronic inverter modules, along with a sophisticated control system. A demonstration ESA is scheduled to be installed and operational on the island of Hawaii by late 2005.
