The California Energy Commission (CEC) invited Redding Electric Utility (REU) to participate in the Governor's Leading the Green Dream Inaugural Celebration in early January. Out of the state's 36 public electric utilities, REU was the only one to participate in this event.
The CEC selected REU as the state's only municipal utility to participate in the event as a direct result of REU's proactive energy conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy education program for the community and local school children. Another factor was REU's growing commitment to the environment through its support of renewable energy: REU recently entered into a long-term contract for approximately 25 megawatts of wind power; sponsored a 14-kilowatt solar photovoltaic (PV)...
