* Air Canada's request for $2 billion in post WTC aid to the airline industry was spumed October 2 by Transport Minister David Collenette, who offered $160 million immediately and promised a second phase of handouts. Air Canada (which is to say, its shareholders) will receive $100 million of the initial payout.
Mr. Collenette promised to "look at" lifting foreign ownership limits on airlines, which he has already been staring at quite blankly for some time. He also said that the airline industry would have to be "restructured." Which is just what Air Canada filing for bankruptcy would accomplish, for free.
