The U.S. beer industry may be undergoing uncertain times, but the American consumer's love affair with imported beer continues.

While the overall beer business in the U.S. is in a battle with wine and spirits to retain its market share, imports have been attracting new fans to its wide international range of styles and flavors.

The news in the imported category is generally good; total imported beer volume grew a healthy 3.6% last year. That increase comes, however, at a much smaller rate than the massive 12% advance the category notched in 2006. Even so, a jump of 14 million cases (the total volume a 3.6% increase represents) is nothing to sneeze at, especially in the tumultuous beer market.
