Verizon Wireless Mobile Cell Sites Fuel Coverage At Raceway
RBOC Update, Dec 1, 2008
Verizon Wireless' pit crew of network technicians have deployed two Cells on Wheels to Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) to ensure "pole position" wireless service during a rent race.
Verizon Wireless deploys mobile cell sites to enhance its network following natural disasters, and for large community events like the race at PIR. The two COWs deployed to the track can handle hundreds of phone calls and data transmissions simultaneously.
"Verizon Wireless customers at PIR can rely on the nation's most reliable voice and data network for calls, downloads and e-mails," said Greg Carek, Southwest region network executive director for Verizon Wireless. "We are committed to ensuring that our network lives up to its excellent reputation for everyday use and during major events like this race."
In the first half of 2008, Verizon Wireless invested more than $60 million in its Arizona network. Nationwide, the company has invested more than $48 billion since it was formed -- $5.5 billion on average every year -- to increase the coverage and capacity of its national wireless network and to add services like BroadbandAccess, V CAST, VZ Navigator(SM) and many more. The company now has the nation's largest 3G network.
