The Florida Historical Society has honored Senior Judge Fredric M. Hitt with the Patrick D. Smith Award for Best Florida Fiction for his historical novel, Wekiva Winter.
The award will be presented to Judge Hitt at the society's annual meeting in Naples May 26 and is named in honor of the author of the Florida historical classic, A Land Remembered.
Wekiva Winter tells the story of the struggle of the Timucua Indians to survive the European invasion of 16th century Florida, and is based upon Judge Hitt's extensive research into early out-of-print records as well as the modern historical and archaeological texts.
