Equal justice works for Palm Beach County caregivers: project addressed the legal needs of poor people taking care of extended family members.

For a growing number of Floridians, their carefree, twilight years are still light-years ahead of them. In Palm Beach County alone, as many as 18,000 grandparents and other extended family members are taking care of their grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and even younger siblings, according to Tim Stevens of the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County. Despite Palm Beach's reputation as the wealthiest enclave in the state, about 5,000 of these relative caregivers are riving in poverty, Stevens said.
