European Compounders to Start Manufacturing Here.(Rhodia Engineering Plastics, LATI USA)(Brief Article)(Statistical Data Included)

Two European-based engineering-resin compounders are establishing their first manufacturing operations in North America. First, Rhodia of France, the world's third-largest nylon producer and second-largest maker of nylon 66, opened a manufacturing facility in Mississauga, Ont., last month. It is called Rhodia Engineering Plastics, and its new 20,000-sq-ft plant will eventually reach a capacity of 44 million lb/yr of Technyl nylon compounds. Flame-retardant, glass-filled, and other grades will be aimed at automotive parts, as well as electrical, and consumer products.

Early next year, Rhodia will open an Automotive Application Development Center in Farmington Hills, Mich. Eventually, the company plans to produce its own nylon resin locally, says Chad...
