HFC-245fa Blowing Agent Is Now Semi-Commercial.(Brief Article)

Plastics Technology, March, 2001

HFC-245fa, the next-generation, non-ozone-depleting blowing agent for rigid polyurethane foam, is now being made in large semi-commercial quantities by Honeywell Performance Polymers & Chemicals, Morristown, N.J. In early November, the company filed a Notice of Commencement of Manufacture (NOC) with the Environmental Protection Agency, the final step needed to obtain approval for a new chemical and have it listed in the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) inventory.

Honeywell's full-scale commercial plant in Geismar, La., is due to start up in mid-2002. The additive is expected to find use in appliance insulation foam, spray foam, and boardstock.
