HR 2086 AUTHORIZES $6.9 BILLION ON IT RESEARCH.(National Science Foundation funding)(Government Activity)(Brief Article)

The High Performance Computing Act of 1991 has received a proposed amendment through HR 2086 which would establish the National Science Foundation (NSF) as the lead organization in IT research over the next 5 years. The Network & Information R&D Act would provide the NSF with funding of nearly $3 billion over the next 5 years. NIH would receive $1.2 billion, NASA $1.1 billion, the Energy Department $602.2 million and the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) $73 million, the National Oceanic & Atmosphere Administration $71.7 million and EPA $22.3 million.
