ITU AND INTELSAT JOIN FORCES TO REACH ISOLATED REGIONS.

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and Intelsat (*) have signed in mid-October a memorandum of understanding with the aim of promoting and developing universal access in the rural and isolated regions. This memorandum will create a cooperation framework susceptible to encourage all the global communication sectors decision makers to work together.

In the next year the two parties will establish a program of cooperation aiming to evaluate the technical and financial needs of the worlds isolated rural areas and will recommend pilot projects in satellite communications aiming to create a communications infrastructure. Intelsat will work in close collaboration with its signatories so as to ensure that the recommended solutions are viable and respond...
