PHILIPS HAS NO INTENTION OF LETTING UP ON ITS SEMICONDUCTOR ACTIVITIES IN EUROPE.(Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.)

The Dutch group Philips intends to continue to invest in, and has no intention of letting up on, its semiconductor activities in Europe said the Vice President of Philips Semiconductors, Indro Mukerjee, during a press conference on October 5. Mr Mukerjee, who was in Paris to participate in a meeting of the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) on the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), also stated that "Philips Semiconductors' priority markets, such as the automobile market, part of the mobile phone chip and RFID markets will allow Philips to grow faster than the semiconductor market as a whole". Most research and advisory companies predict that the market will have a 5% growth in 2006.
