DIRECTIVE ON MISLEADING ADVERTISING.

Tech Europe, December, 2006

The EU Council, on 30 November, adopted on first reading the coded version of the Directive on misleading advertising (84/45/EEC, amended in 1997 and 2005). For reasons of clarity and simplification, the European Commission proposed to combine all the changes into a single proposal. In May 2005, the EU adopted a directive on unfair sales practices.

The aim was to create a single European interdiction. The text was therefore used to amend the 1984 directive by introducing legal clauses to combat misleading advertising and to regulate comparative advertising.
