MUSIC INDUSTRY : EU CLEARS SONY-BMG MERGER, AGAIN.

The merger of two large record companies, Japan's Sony Music and Germany's Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG), has received the green light from the European Commission. "The merger will not pose any competition problems on the markets in question," affirmed Neelie Kroes on 3 October. "This investigation represents one of the most in-depth analyses of complex information ever undertaken by the Commission in the framework of the merger process," added the competition commissioner.

In fact, the European Commission had to review its file after the EU Court of First Instance (CFI) revoked, on 13 July 2006, the first (positive) decision that it had taken regarding this merger plan. On 20 July 2004, the Commission had authorised the creation of Sony BMG, considering that...
