CAR INDUSTRY : EP ASKS FOR MORE FUNDING FOR AUTOMOTIVE RESEARCH.

It is necessary to help the car industry to adapt to new environmental demands particularly through an increase in research funding, believe the members of the European Parliament's Committee on Industry and Research (ITRE) in a report on the draft Competitive Automotive Regulatory Framework (CARS 21), adopted on 22 November.

The own-initiative report from Jorgo Chatzimarkakis (ALDE, Germany), adopted by 36 votes for and three against, stresses that, given that the car industry must make considerable changes, adjustments of the European policy are necessary in order to to safeguard employment in particular.
