CONSUMERS : TELEPHONE, POSTAL AND BANKING HABITS IN THE EU.

The habits of European consumers with their mobile or fixed-line phone, the post office or the bank have been jointly dissected by Eurostat, the EU's statistical office, and the European Commission (DG Health and Consumer Protection) in the third edition of Consumers in Europe - Facts and Figures'.

The document records almost one subscription to a mobile telephone per inhabitant of the EU27 in 2005. On the other hand, the number of fixed telephone lines per 100 inhabitants of the EU27 has only slightly increased during the period (from 43 lines in 1996 to 48 lines in 2005), it states. In 2006, 18% of EU25 households had a mobile phone and no fixed line.
