The European Parliament approved Switzerland's participation in the European programme to support the audiovisual industry MEDIA 2007 on 19 February in Strasbourg (consultation procedure). The Council had given its backing to the European Commission's proposal for a decision in September last year.
Switzerland was already participating in the previous programmes, MEDIA Plus and Media Training. The new agreement revises and complements these arrangements. Bern's financial contribution to MEDIA's budget for 2007-2013 (equipped with 755 million in total) will increase progressively. It was some 4 million in 2007, it will be more than 6 million in 2013.
