AIR TRANSPORT : PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP TO SEIZE INITIATIVE ON GREEN TRAVEL.

Major leaps forward in the environmental sustainability of air travel are being anticipated by the European Commission, following the official launch of a new international public private partnership (PPP) on 5 February.

The partnership, known officially as a Joint Technology Initiative, has an overall budget of 1.6 billion for the period up to 2017, at least 1.55 billion of which will be devoted to funding research and development into green aeronautics'. Major companies involved in running the JTI, which has been named Clean Sky, include Saab, Safran, Airbus, EADS-CASA, Thales and Rolls Royce.
