GALILEO : PARLIAMENT AND COUNCIL STRUGGLING TO REACH AN AGREEMENT.

The EU Council of Ministers and the European Parliament are striving to agree on the proposal for a regulation on the deployment and exploitation phases of Galileo, the European satellite-based navigation system. The EP's Industry Committee has once again had to postpone the adoption of compromise amendments, scheduled for 27 March, due to lack of agreement with the Council. This is the third such postponement, following the aborted votes in February and March.

The points of disagreement do not concern essential aspects of the text but they are nevertheless holding up the first-reading agreement (co-decision procedure) sought by both institutions.
