Despite notable differences between countries, a very large majority of European doctors use computers and the internet for professional purposes but they could make better use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in areas where they are not widely used, such as electronic prescriptions and telemonitoring. This is one of the conclusions of a comparative study on the use of ICT by general practitioners in Europe ( Benchmarking ICT use among general practitioners in Europe'), the results of which were presented, on 25 April, by the European Commission.
