According to Al-Hayat newspaper (December 12, 1999), the Yemeni Minister of Industry and the chief executive of the Public Investments Authority, Mr. Adul-Rahman Ali Othman, says the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is interested in financing and executing an integrated industrial development scheme to combat poverty in Yemen.
The initial phase of this new plan, worth $3.5 million, aims not only to sustain present employment levels in the local industrial sector, but also to create new job opportunities.
