IPR Strategic Business Information Database, January, 2000
According to the Chief Executive of "Gazprom", Rem Vyakhirev, wholesale prices for natural gas are expected to rise by 35% in 2000. According to him, the price increase will occur in two stages, and will bring gas prices in Russia a little closer to the average price in Europe. The price at the end of 1999 was $10-11 per 1,000 cubic meters, after having risen by 15% in the course of the year.
"Gazprom" will end 1999 with a paper profit, even though it has received payment for only 40% of the gas delivered to Russian consumers, of which only half was in cash.
