Canadian Occidental Petroleum started operating in Yemen in 1987 in the field of oil exploration in the Hadharmaut district, and currently produces 220,000 barrels of crude per day. The company has also won a contract for extracting oil from 4 new fields in the area.
The Canadian Mountain Co. specializes in mining, and in March 2000 reported the discovery of a gold mine with commercial deposits in the northwest of the country. Minarco and Minarco Resources operate in the field of gold, lead and copper mining.
