TUNISIA: CONSTRUCTION OF NEW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.(Brief Article)(Statistical Data Included)

According to A-Sahafa newspaper, Tunisia's Civil Aviation Authority held a meeting to discuss construction of a new international airport in the east of the country, in the vicinity of the towns of Harqala and A-Nafidha. The meeting was attended by the General Manager of the Civil Aviation and Airports Authority Habib Alaq, who gave the following details of the new airport: It will be completed by 2003; it will have a capacity for handling 5 million passengers per annum; and phase A of the construction work is due to commence in September 2000.
Firms from France and Tunisia have already carried out preliminary studies. The facility is expected to handle 30 million passengers by 2038. Work on the scheme has been coordinated with Tunisia's electricity, water, gas...
