According to the North Africa Journal, Tunisian computer software firm Banque et Finances Internationale (BFI) has been selected to design and implement an inter-bank transaction processing system for the Algerian Central Bank, a project that may also be sponsored by the World Bank. Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika was reportedly impressed by BFI when he visited the company during his recent tour of the Ariana Technological Park in northern Tunis.

BFI, which exports financial software to 15 countries and had a turnover of $12 million in 1999, recently won a British tender for the creation of a 100% virtual bank which will offer its services worldwide via the internet. [Upline Securities]
