ISRAEL: FIRST ISRAELI ASTRONAUT NAMED TO 2001 SHUTTLE.(Ilan Ramon)(Brief Article)

According to Israel Line (Sep. 29), Israel's first astronaut was named to a 2001 space shuttle flight by the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration on Thursday, Israel Radio, KOL YISRAEL reported. Israel Air Force Colonel Ilan Ramon will fly as a payload specialist aboard space shuttle Columbia next summer on a research mission.
Ramon, 46, was born in Tel Aviv and served as a deputy commander of F-16 and F-4 squadrons.
