JORDAN: CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY SEEKS FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE.(Jordanian Civil Aviation Public Authority)(Brief Article)

According to Al-Hayat newspaper (January 7, 2001), the Board of Directors of the Jordanian Civil Aviation Public Authority recommended the Jordanian Cabinet to grant financial and administrative independence to the authority, representing an initial step toward privatization. The board has demanded that the cabinet grant the authority sovereignty as far as the administrative, financial and legislative systems are concerned.
It also includes the ability to amend and modernize tenders and investment laws. The board requires the restructuring of the authority in order to operate airports and other facilities based on commercial terms.
